Resting Face

HELLO EVERYBODY LOOK WHAT I FOUND :

Today's post has been inspired by Tom Hiddleston's perfect face,
and the depression I am going through because today is Sunday.

Well /technically/ it isn't Sunday yet because I haven't gone to sleep.

But.
ugh.
My holiday is over.

And.
ugh.
Gynae.

Also.
Hormones.

Avengers and The Beaniplex

SO.
GUESS WHAT I DID TODAY.

(I mean, it's not like the post title gives it away or anything right?)

OKAY.
SO.

TODAY.
Went to meet up with Jea Mie (also a co-author of this blog, for those of you who don't know), to ...wait for it...watch Avengers for the second time!

(Watched Dark Shadows again too, but its still blehh the second time around so we're not talking about that)

Because.

Well.
Hiddles. :3

yes.

AND.

THE CINEMA LAYOUT IN PYRAMID HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED.
I felt like an outsider...I didn't know they changed it. :(

What on earth is "The Club" btw?

OH OH BUT.

THEY HAVE A BEANIPLEX.

A BEANIPLEX.

A CINEMA WITH BEAN BAGS INSTEAD OF REGULAR SEATS.

HOW COOL IS THAT?
So comfy!

Here, I flicked a picture off the TGV website (because I'm not one of those bloggers who whips out a camera everywhere they go ok) so you guys can see what it looks like :

Its like there's one huge bean bag for two people.

And its HUGE, so you have lots of space, and you're pretty much shut off from the people in the other seats (except for the person you're sharing your bean bag with),
and if you sit at the side, like we did today, then you get even more privacy!

And the rows are spaced out, so you have alot of leg room.

I stretched my legs out completely, and still couldn't reach the seat in front of me.

WHICH MEANS, and this is the most important part,

you can talk all you want in the cinema to your seatmate without bothering the others watching the movie!

I did
not shut up the entire movie today ok.

Ultimate couple seat, yo!

If I get a boyfriend at any point in time within in the next decade, I'm dragging him to the Beaniplex for an action flick.

Of course, there's the initial discomfort you get when sitting on a bean bag for the first time.
You have to do the whole wriggle-your-butt dance so you can get into a comfortable position.

It's also horribly low, so I wouldn't recommend it for people with back problems.
But the fun part is being able to kick off your shoes, push your handbag to the floor by your feet, and completely sprawl out.

At one point I was almost flat-out sprawling, and since we were sitting right at the back, we were above the screen so I didn't even have to lift up my head to see what was happening.
Blissssss.

And then whenever Hiddles (bb!) was on screen, I could just curl up like a cat and bask in his prettiness.

I loved it.

Almost tempted to demand we watch
every movie
from this day on in the Beaniplex.
Only drawback is its RM19...that's almost what you pay for a 3D movie, right?

Once in awhile is okay though.

Now,
on to the Avengers.

(you knew this was coming)

Warning : If you do not in any way find Loki/Tom Hiddleston (who plays Loki) attractive, then stop reading now.

Okay, so the first time I watched the Avengers, I didn't quite like it.
I thought it fell flat.
Text Color

Of course, I'd never watched any of the individual superhero movies, aside from Thor.
And that too, I watched on the plane to Ireland, so it wasn't exactly the clearest copy in the world.

I'm going to digress a little bit here and talk about Thor (the movie) first instead.

I don't usually watch superhero movies.
The only reason I watched this one was : Josh Dallas. (He's Fandrall in Thor. Not sure if I spelt it right)

Thor is an idiot.
I loved Loki in Thor...honestly, for the first half of the movie I thought it was Jared Leto playing him, but wtv.. and I was very very upset when they made him the villain.
Stupid Thor.
Stupid Odin.
Poor bb Loki.

But again, thanks to the sound quality and the video quality, I never really understood why he did what he did.

And then of course I went to Ireland and had the time of my life and forgot about Loki.

Until they were promoting the Avengers.
And I saw Loki as the villain and I was like
asldksjfksjgsdgh so cool ok we have to watch this.

I had no idea who the
superheroes even were omg.

But yes.
So we went for Avengers about two weeks ago, and I LOVED all the Loki scenes,
but the overall movie just didn't do it for me.

In retrospect (this is Rachel's hypothesis), it was probably because the only person I knew and liked in the movie was Loki,
so I found scenes without him in it awfully bland.

Which made an awful lot of sense, honestly.

So, I watched Thor again,
And then I watched Captain America (HOW ADORBZ IS CHRIS EVANS)

...didn't watch Ironman, but Robery Downey Jr is awesome enough that I didn't need to watch it before Avengers again.

And then, naturally, being me,
I watched a shitload of interviews.
Fell even more in love with Tom Hiddleston.

Up until then I was only in love with Loki,
but after those interviews...dammit. Hiddles!
(AND JEREMY RENNER IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL OK)

Basically submerged myself in everything Avengers,
and then finally went to watch it again today.

I
LOVED IT THIS TIME.

I felt like a 5-year old omg.
I bet I was all starry-eyed the whole time. Sure felt like it.

This time, I actually loved all the other characters as well,
and I'd watched it once before already,
so I could really pay attention to how the characters interacted with each other, and all the dialogue, and the action,
and
omg I loved it.

And I was saying all of Hiddles dialogues along with him in the first few scenes,
until Jea Mie was all
SHUSH
so then I just mouthed them along with him in the other scenes.

Favourite scenes :
(unabashedly stealing pics/gifs from tumblr here...all credits to their rightful owners, of course)

The first one where Loki appears on Earth.

The one in Stuttgart where he walks down the staircase like a total diva and that incredibly sexy way he just flicks that specter up when he's about to whack the other guy.

The fight between Ironman and Thor, which Cap has to break up.

AND YOU GUYS THAT SWAG LOKI HAS WHEN HE'S BEING LED TO CAPTIVITY.
GAH.
SO MUCH SEXY IN ONE WALK.

Also, that one time where Hawkeye shoots an arrow at Loki and he catches it, with this Bitch, Please look. (FAVOURITE OK)

I wish I could say I hated that scene where Hulk smashes Loki,
but I don't.

I laughed like mad the first time I saw it,
I laughed like mad again today.
And then felt guilty afterward.
(but then there's this one interview where Hiddles says that he had to pretty much throw himself about in that scene because it's all done in front of a green screen obviously, and Mark Ruffalo obviously wasn't capable of doing that in real life...which is a testament to how awesome Hiddles is and for that reason alone I like that scene ok. ...but also because it's really funny)

And that whimper after the Hulk smashes him!
Did you guys hear that?
He
whimpered, poor bb.

Oh, and omg that bit on Stark Tower where Thor is all "It's still not too late, we can stop this together",
and Loki has this one moment of hesitation and you can see in his eyes that he's almost considering it, but then he snaps back to the present and is all "It's too late", because it really is and he doesn't want to back down and..

HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE NOT LOVE HIM HE'S NOT THAT EVIL A GUY, HONEST.

This is the same reason why we (I) loved Michael Fassbender as Magneto.
They play their characters so well that it allows you to psychoanalyze their characters to bits and fall in love with them.

yes.

Anyway.

Favourite quote :

An ant has no quarrel with a boot.

Especially delivered in that delicious British accent...
I'm beginning to think that it was really lucky we didn't watch this movie in 3D...I wanted to grab Hiddles and kiss him everytime he appeared on screen. I'd have been literally pawing at thin air ok omg.

BUT WHY DO THEY STILL NOT HAVE THE POST-CREDIT SHAWARMA SCENE?
WHY.

I still do not comprehend the Black Widow's superpower.
I mean she's kickass, but what exactly is her "specific skill set"?

I could've made Loki say the whole "You brought the monster" thing.
ahem.

And.

Me : Why couldn't they have gotten Robin (Cobie Smulders) to play Black Widow instead of Scarlet Johanssen??

Jea Mie : Boobs not big enough.

Valid point, ladies and gentlemen.

mm-hmm.

Probably in another post or something I'd post all the adorable Hiddles interviews so you lot can see exactly why I love him so.

I should probably stop here because I'm horribly sleepy and I want to go whine on twitter about how I have two days left before the horror that is Gynae begins.

Oh,
btw,
Walked past a Superheroes United shop today.

...not walked exactly.
More like meandered around it (because I really wanted to go in but was too shy to, for some inexplicable reason),
until I finally worked up the courage to walk in and ask the guy if they sold Loki T-Shirts (DO NOT JUDGE ME),

and he was all : Awh. No. No Loki. ...but we do have Captain America, if you-

PFFT. RACISTS.

Well, not really, but. VILLAINISTS.

PFFT.

IF YOU CAN SELL THE SUPERHERO SHIRTS WHAT ABOUT THE VILLAINS HOW COME NO ONE LOVES THEM?

OH OH ALSO.

GUESS WHAT JEA MIE BROUGHT ME TODAY!

GAME OF THRONES KEYCHAINS!
ALKSJDFSHFJDHDGH.

(I'll take a picture of them tomorrow when I have better lighting ok)

I had an excellent day today.

Honest.

Days like these don't come often. :)

The 20 Steps To Effective Studying

according to Vidya Pillai

Step 1 : Decide to study.

Step 2 : Tweet about it.

Step 3 : Decide what to study.

Step 4 : Tweet about that too.

Step 5 : Hunt for textbook, notebook and stationery.

Step 6 : Rearrange desk to create more space for studying.

Step 7 : Move laptop out of the way.

Step 8 : Place textbooks in middle of desk to begin.

Step 9 : Realize you have no study music.

Step 10 : Push textbooks out of the way, pull laptop to centre of desk again and open iTunes.

Step 11 : Start compiling a playlist of instrumental songs.

Step 12 : Listen to each song in turn to make sure there is nothing too upbeat or loud that could interfere with thinking process.

Step 13 : Realize 1 hour has passed.

Step 14 : Check twitter one last time, close all tabs, close iTunes, and then realize you have conveniently forgotten to save the study playlist.

Step 15 : Begin compiling music again.

Step 16 : Go on youtube to search for more music. Fall in love with random youtube artists and listen to everything they've ever uploaded.

Step 17 : Take a walk because it is unhealthy to have been sitting in front of a laptop for 3 hours.

Step 18 : Rearrange desk again because the layout obviously isn't conducive for studying. Feel really tired after that.

Step 19 : Take 20-minute power nap. Wake up 3 hours later.

Step 20 : Decide the whole thing was a hopeless endeavor anyway and abort mission.

This post was weak attempt at satire,
because I'm in a foul mood today and it's already Thursday and I haven't touched a single page of any of my textbooks.
I am angry at myself,
and yet not quite willing to begin studying.

yes.

.

I cannot last a week in this family without going mad.

My head feels like its about to explode.

Maybe I should just stop coming home altogether.

Mid-Holiday Blog Post

Blogging time!
...because I'm supposed to be studying right now, and we all know that means (for me) it's the perfect time to blog instead.

I'm going to apologize
(I've been doing this very often lately)
for all the rant-ish posts of late.
It's not that I just have things to rant about all the time nowadays,
I mean I do want to blog about other things in my life,

like the Avengers,
or TOM HIDDLESTON YOU GUYS TOM HIDDLESTON,
or like what happened in class the other day,
or.. you know, just random stuff.

But the internet in Seremban is craaaaaaaazy slow,
and it takes more than a minute to upload a single picture into a blog post, and half the time it doesn't even upload, and I have to keep refreshing/reuploading and it annoys the heck out of me.

Which would explain why my blog posts of late have been picture-and-gif-free.

And I mean, if I wanted to write about the Avengers and all, I couldn't not put pictures. Where's the fun in that?!

So I don't blog.

Except when I need to let off steam somewhere. Because rants don't need pictures to back them up.

So yeah.

Long-winded apology over.

Hardly been blogging this sem.
Three months (and a bit more) in, and we've already finished Surgery, Paeds and Int Med.

Int Med was a horror.

And next up is Gynae!
yaaaaay. not.

ugh so not looking forward to meeting the monster of my nightmares. (coughDatoSivacough)

We've got a one week break in between (right now).

Very much needed break.
Well deserved, too, if I do say so myself.

And I've spent the first four days of it doing....absolutely nothing.
Literally.

I wake up at 11ish everyday (I DON'T KNOW WHY I SET MY ALARM FOR 8 BUT I JUST CANNOT WAKE UP OMG)
and then eat lunch,
and then fall back asleep in front of the tv because there's never anything good on,
and then wake up and go online,
mostly tumblr, too placate all my Tom Hiddleston feels (I love him, you guys. I do. I love him)
eat dinner,
go back on tumblr,
tweet like mad so that people are aware of my lack of a social life,
and then maybe watch a movie (Tom Hiddleston movies obviously)
and then go to bed.

mm-hmm.

AND IT'S ALREADY WEDNESDAY!
ARGHHH.

I mean, it's not that I should be freaking out about not studying (I should, I really should),
but it's also that I'm not doing anything.
Haven't gone out anywhere,
haven't watched any proper movies (Hiddles had some shit movies ok)

haven't touched my piano or guitar or anything that I've been planning to do since sem started,
haven't picked up a storybook and just read for the fun of it.

Oh, but I did try reading The God Of Small Things,
because the Bwoy (prev known just as the Boy) was reading it,
and I remembered I had a copy of it lying around somewhere, so I decided maybe I'd read it too.

...never made it past the first page.

Arundhati Roy, you are the queen of long-windedness.

No really,
This is how it starts :

"May in Ayemenem is a hot, brooding month. The days are long and humid. The river shrinks and black crows gorge on bright mangoes in still, dustgreen trees. Red bananas ripen. Jackfruits burst. Dissolute bluebottles hum vacuously in the fruity air. Then they stun themselves against clear windowpanes and die, fatly baffled in the sun."

...I have no idea where she even plans to go with this story.

Quite honestly, if I'd been browsing through books at a bookshop, and I came across this one, I'd have read the first paragraph, closed it, put it right back on the shelf and continued on.

Which reminds me,
I MUST rant about the quality of bookstores nowadays.

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MPH?

HAVE YOU GUYS SEEN THE NEW MPH IN MID VALLEY?

WHY DID THEY MOVE IT?

WHY DID THEY MAKE IT SO INCREDIBLY SMALL?

MPH Mid Valley was by far my favourite bookstore ever okay.
It was so huge, and there were places to sit and read, and a cafe, and a whole section just for music books, and...it was like dreamland for me.
I loved going there.
AND NOW THEY'VE JUST MOVED TO MAKE WAY FOR UNIQLO?
WHAAAAAT.

And the new MPH is so bloody tiny I wanted to throw a tantrum when I first walked in!

And Popular is just full of Chinese books okay.

And Borders and Kinokuniya are too bloody far for me to frequent. ugh.
WHY CAN'T WE HAVE PROPER BOOKSTORES?

Okay. Rant over.

I want a library.

In my house, I mean.
Like in all those Jane Austen novels.

Just one room, dedicated to books and nothing else.
With comfy couches, and huge windows so there's lots of light.

I'd probably live in there and never go to work for the rest of my life or something.

But I want that. That's my white-picket-fence dream.

(I'm sorry, pretty home libraries are my weakness)

Well.
So I've rambled on long enough in this post.
I'll try to post more the remaining few days I have free before I have to go back to the hellhole that is IMU.

uh-huh.

I'm going to end this with something my niece said the other day.

"I don't have to learn malayalam! I'm going to marry Justin Bieber, he doesn't speak malayalam!"

I worry about that child.

Also!
Yay! Watching Avengers again on Friday!

Actually didn't like it very much the first time (but then I just watched it for Loki, mind you),
so this time I'm going to try and see if I can focus on everybody else in the movie for a change.

Failing that,
I can just drool over Hiddles all over again.

Can't go wrong.

Dark Shadows was blehhh.

OH OH ALSO.
LOOK WHAT I FOUND ON MY TWITTER TIMELINE THIS MORNING.

How do you not love this man?
(p.s. the dude who runs @godofbadassery is a genius)

Thought of the Day

I wish people would think for themselves.

Yes, I understand you just read that wonderful book that had the most amazing message,
or you just listened to that motivational speaker who inspired you to take charge of your own life..

...but before you quote it to death to your friends, think.
Think about what you read.
Think about what that person said.

Was it biased?
Did it really make sense?
Does it really apply to your life?

It's wonderful to listen to good speakers who can sway you to their way of thinking,

but. think.
Do you really believe in what he's saying?

Because if you do,
then tell me in your own words what you've gleaned from it.
Don't quote chunks of it to me.

And, for the love of God, please learn to accept that others' may have different perspectives on a subject.

Extremely random incoherent rant.
Excuse me.

~vid~

Sunday 13 May 2012

rant.

I hate my life.

Exam week this week.
And we have to cover ward for Dato' Kew tomorrow. Means I'm going back to Seremban tonight.
And my CFCS presentation is on Tuesday.
And my EOP is on Wednesday with Prof Esha (so help me God),
And SAQ is on Thursday,
And ward round with Prof Victor on Friday.

And today is Mother's Day and I'm swamped with doing research for tomorrow's tbl.
And tomorrow is my brother's birthday and he's pissed as hell because I'm going back today.

And now my mother is pissed,
eventhough I already explained to her two days ago that I wouldn't be able to do anything for her this weekend, and we should just celebrate next weekend.

"Oh you always do this! You always have to pick my birthday and mother's day to pull stunts like this!"

For the record, I have never. NEVER. before missed celebrating my mother's birthday,
or Mother's Day.
Even if my brother and my dad aren't around, I've celebrated with her. Just the two of us.

So I know the accusation should make me unreasonably angry,
but right now I'm just heartbroken.

I really am.

Sometimes I wish I was studying somewhere overseas so I wouldn't have to juggle studying and being so fucking obligated to this family.

Why can't you sacrifice just this once for my work?

I am tired, I am upset, and I honestly am heartbroken.
Just can't ever seem to get a break where my family is concerned.

Tuesday 1 May 2012

Awake

Its 1.15pm.
Haven't slept since the derby.
Didn't sleep before it, and was too upset to sleep after, so I just listened to more Kurt Schneider covers (all the ones I'd missed while clinical school was too busy eating up my life) and then just sauntered down for breakfast at 7am, because I was starving and if I'd gone to sleep then I would have probably woken up sometime tonight. :/

Drank the usual coffee for breakfast, somehow caffeine really kicks in when you're dead tired eh?
Don't usually feel the effects of it on normal mornings.

Made scrambled eggs for breakfast, because I could.
Then my mother wanted to bake a vegetarian (read : eggless) cake for my dad's relatives. My family is going to visit them later today.
I'm not going because they're rude and condescending and sarcastic and honestly a wee bit senile, and life is too short for me to spend a precious mid-week holiday tolerating the same old comments about my skin colour and weight and whatnot from people I really can't stand.

Helped my mother make the cake though. ...because I like my mother.

uh-huh.

And then, I was contemplating going to sleep,
but was too lazy to move from our island table in the kitchen, so I was just aimlessly skimming through recipes,
and then when I got sick of that,
I picked up the John Green book that I recently bought (did I blog about how I spent my book vouchers on that?), that also happened to be lying on aforesaid island,
and decided to just skim through the first chapter.

I got hooked.

I like his style of writing.
My mother disapproves of me reading books like that, she's all for John Grisham and Jeffrey Archer and all,
but whattheheck. I'm allowed my random, juvenile (not really) tastes in books.

And I loved this book.
The Fault In Our Stars.

It was depressing towards the end,
and now I'm all sad,
and there was this one point where I was feeling really sick,
but that's probably because I've slept about 2 hours in the past 32 hours or so, which also explains why this post is so pointless and rambly.

I honestly don't know why I'm blogging right now, but I am, so there.

Still haven't done my CFCS reports, but since the presentation is postponed,
I'm not in such a big hurry to get them done as I was before.

Which means I can afford to switch on my air-cond, cocoon myself in my wonderful purple squishy blankie and sleep while my family goes traipsing off to Melaka to visit vegetarian relatives whom none of us really like.

Because, if you don't like your relatives, then you simply must push your feelings aside and be hypocrites to maintain peace and tranquility.

amen.

Yeah, I really do need to sleep.

Goodnight.
